inge skryf: dag 14

Day 14, Thursday 21 May 2009

When I woke up this morning my tent was, for the first time on this trip, dry. Thank you kind wind. The Green Hill staff arranged for us to use one of the rooms to shower and what have you. It just so happens that the area does not have running water, so the ladies were kind enough to carry a few buckets of water for us to use. So once again, we had to wash up.

After a few kilometres we stooped at the side of the side of the road to buy some samoosas (does samoosa have 1 “o” or 2..?). We asked for vegetable samoosas and got potato samoosas. Then we gave it back and said we asked for vegetable. Then he went down, did something and gave us other samoosas. This happened two times. As we drove on, we all discovered potato in our samoosas, instead of vegetable. Oily goodness.

The rest of the morning we listened to the soundtrack of Amelie while driving along the tropical landscape toward Arusha. It was very cloudy, but still quite warm. We stopped in Moshi for a brunch of some sorts. At first we got to a place where the tables were basically covered in flies and there was no food ready to be served. One guy then directed us to an Indian place nearby. The place was called Mumbai Masala: Indian Restaurant and Pub. We were, once again, the only people there. I ordered the vegetable curry cooked in tomato and cream, Lodie basically the same and Anja a toasted sandwich. The curry was served in traditional Indian bowls (Konfoor..?), for which I can not find the right word to describe it with just yet… Afterwards we each had a little pot of chai tea, took a few photos and got back on the road.

We arrived in Arusha at about 15:00, drove through the town, not for our own viewing pleasure, but to find the Impala Hotel. Yes, you read it. The two with the money decided to mess with the trip’s budget and spoil us tonight. How kind are they? We checked in, got nice rooms on the seventh floor and had the rest of the afternoon to relax. By relax I mean start writing profusely on these blogposts…

My time here is coming to an end and it hurts my body and my soul to know that by this time next week I’ll be busy studying while Annami is experiencing a whole new world.

At about 19:00 we went down to reception, had a few Gin & Tonics and wasted time deciding what to eat. The hotel offers a variety of dining experiences: Indian, Chinese, Italian and Continental. After looking at all the menus we decided to stick to today’s theme: Indian. We all ordered an Indian dish and proceeded to the dining hall. We had more Gin…I cried twice (from laughing while telling stories about my life…). I think it came across otherwise. *ahem* The Gin. We (finally) had fried bananas with honey for dessert. Something we should have had roundabout Senga Bay…

The wireless internet in the hotel is not working, so while Anja and Lodie were in their beds, I was stuck in the internet café…

Today was a good day filled with incredible food and a lot of laughs.

Bis später.
